When we haven't been hard at work designing and building websites this week, we've been hard at work curating some of the interesting links we've received into a lovely list for you to peruse at the end of the week.
Design from the past
- How did the world's biggest websites, including Amazon, Twitter and YouTube look when they were first launched? Pretty bad is pretty much the answer.
- You may think infographics are a new phenomenon, but the style of this collection of London Transport posters from 1912-69 has a very contemporary feel today.
- Remember what it was like when you had to restart your computer several times a day? This site recreates the experience from lots of vintage operating systems.
Online magazines
- An interesting interview with Frank Stepehenson, McLaren Automotive's Design Director about futuristic materials, technologies and design techniques in "Think with Google" quarterly magazine.
- "Edits Quarterly: Short narratives in film & photography" has lovely photography and novel keyboard nav.
High and low tech ways of making a video
- High tech - use motion tracking cameras to project a false perspective 3D background onto your blank scenery
- Low tech - use a coloured torch, long exposure time-lapse photography, and a LOT of patience to create a hypnotic music video
Rckt news
- We launched a redesigned site for Fletchers Group - they are one of the largest bakery groups in the country, supplying bread, cakes and other baked loveliness to shops and supermarkets across the UK. WARNING: contains lots of lovely photography of delicious baked goodness.
