It would be fair to consider it plain showy to have two degrees, but that’s exactly what our Simon’s got. His motives are good though – he was desperate to escape a career selling mineral water, and even though he nearly always went back to the depot with about as much water as he’d left with, he used the time to learn about sales strategies, and what not to do.
Simon was always into advertising and marketing, even as a nipper. When his mum told him she thought he’d be a millionaire if he paid as much attention to homework as he did TV ads, his mind was made up. He might have two degrees, but he wasn’t a born academic, see. And there were a lot of very good ads on telly in those days!
He is curious though – not in a weird way – in a ‘questioning’
way…hence asking ‘but why?’ almost constantly. Turns out that’s a good
thing because if you can’t answer ‘why’ in marketing, you’re probably
about to do things all wrong. When he’s not solving the marketing
conundrums his clients thought might be impossible, he’s generally
choosing the most expensive thing on the menu…terrible habit…don’t ever
offer to pay for dinner.
