The Health and Safety Executive website is one of the UK’s most visited public sectors websites with 9 million visits per month. Rckt has played a key role as lead external partner in the redesign and strategy of the hse.gov.uk site, initially providing consultation on the creation of personas and user journeys, through to information architecture, concept design, template build and finally site migration.
Rckt was also commissioned to lead a strategic review of HSE’s future website development. This included an analysis of upcoming technologies, their impact on HSE’s web presence, and future opportunities they present. The conclusions have helped shape the future strategy of the site, and a number of recommendations have already been implemented to a very positive reception.
This included a significant switch from paid printed publications to free online distribution of advice and publications, improved mobile access, and increased use of video and audio content (e.g. Podcasts) for greater audience interaction. A number of upcoming improvements will allow improved user feedback and sharing of content, with the aim of increasing the organisation’s transparency and accountability.
